Twitter now gives you a way to let you untag yourself from threads.

Twitter is currently working on a new way for users to escape conversations, Jane Manchun Wong, Writer, and Researcher Tweeted an apparent screenshot of a new “leave this conversation feature”.

This feature will allow you to untag yourself from a conversation, also preventing people from mentioning you in the conversation anymore while also stopping you from receiving notifications about it, You will still be able to see the thread, but you won’t ever be notified about it again.

You might think this is a feature that was previously available as there is another feature that allows you to mute a conversation called “mute this conversation”. But with this new feature, Leaving the conversation will make your Twitter handle appear as plain text and the hyperlink to your profile will be removed. This thing will add a lot of friction and will discourage a lot of people from pulling you into conversations you are not interested to participate in.

Twitter has not confirmed whether this feature is in the works, But considering that Twitter has steadily introduced new ways to control how other people engage with your account (Including tweaks that simplify existing options like forcing the user to unfollow you as well as limits to replies & notifications) This new feature that Twitter is probably going to be announcing soon is kind of more dramatic end of the spectrum and gives you a lot more control, but users will appreciate this feature when tagged in an irritating thread.
