Spotify is now adding the most basic function to their iOS and Android apps, and that is a dedicated play and shuffle button on playlists and album pages. Up until now, users would have to tap the button on most playlists and it will start playback with a shuffle mode enabled to play tracks in order, you’d have to tap an individual song.

These split play features and shuffle buttons will only be available for our Spotify premium users. Although at first glance it might seem very odd to just only Grant Payne Manglers access these separate icons, it does make sense as beyond select playlists users are only able to use Spotify and Shuffle only mode on mobile. Spotify will be rolling out the separate planes shuffle buttons in the coming weeks, which really will help them bake it into the app from the jump.

Last year Adele pressured the streaming platform to remove the shuffle button from albums as she argued that albums should be listened to in the order in the way artists intend for listeners to listen to them. It seems like Spotify data agree as it started displaying only irregular play buttons for albums, although it is bringing the Shuffle button to pages with the latest update.
