Amazon rolling out a new ordering option for the PS5 and Xbox Series X to remove scalpers

With the massive uprise of scalpers and bots that snag all of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles before actual humans can even secure them, Amazon is now rolling out a new invite-based ordering option for high-demand products that are low in supply to help legitimate shoppers get their hands on items that matter. Instead of people selling it for expensive rates again.

This invite option will now be available for PS5 in the United States. It will be enabled for Xbox Series X in the coming days, and the company is also planning to use this system for more products and in other countries.

Amazon will assess whether any account that requests an invitation is authentic by looking at things like when the account was created and the purchase history and if the company believes that he wore a human, you are invited, the request will be granted and Amazon will send you an e-mail with more instructions on how to buy the product.

You will have a certain period in which to complete your purchase before the invite expires, and you’ll also see a countdown on their product page. Amazon will dish out more invites for a hot ticket item as it receives more stock. Sony also has a new similar invite system on their PlayStation Direct site, where they sell the PS5 in limited quantities and it would have been nice if Amazon had implemented this version before 2020. But well, guess what, whatever happened just passed and we just can’t do anything about it now. There are also other ways Amazon could fend off scalpers by limiting the price of items for marketplace sellers.
