If the car is exposed to the sun, it will start charging itself. Although the car does not run on solar power, instead it’s solar-assisted to drive long distances As the car normally has to tap into the battery reserve. The solar panels do provide up to 44 miles of range per day in a sunny climate while the EV range is 388 miles in total. For drivers with exceptionally short commutes or those who need their vehicle in-frequently, the Lightyear 0 will allow them to no longer spend money on gas or charging.

The company says that people with a daily commute of 22 miles will be able to drive the Light Year 0 for 2 months straight in the Netherlands’ summer without needing to charge, ever.

It’s also important to note that Lightyear 0 owners will have to drive the car for a long time to justify the vehicle purchase as a cost-saving measure, the car will cost $263,262. Although the company currently only plans to make 946 units more reasonably priced, the vehicle is also on the low way as the company also recently unveiled a prototype of a 33,000 solar-powered car which will start being produced by 2025.
