So only has finally revealed the design of their next-generation PlayStation VR2 headset. They did announce it in February 2021 and they showed off the controllers last March and confirmed that they will call it PlayStation VR2 in January. But this is the first time they have revealed the design of this new virtual reality headset.

It seems as though the design features a similar white and black color scheme as the PlayStation Five, and it does take a lot of design cues. It can be seen from the edges and curves on the device that it’s very much influenced by the design of the PlayStation 5. The new model also brings some new enhancements, including a lens adjustment dial, a new vent design, and a slight weight reduction and also similar to the PlayStation Five and the Dualsense controller. The PlayStation VR2 has a tiny texture, with PlayStation icons hidden on the front and the back bands of the headset.

It’s been almost five years since the original PlayStation VR came out, and it’s a great time for an upgrade. Although the PSVR can still be used with the PS5, you will need a special adapter and the experience is very last gen. Sony has also been making other moves that were awkward, like giving out free.PS5 VR games to PlayStation Plus members, but they did not even have a good VR headset to enjoy it on.

This new headset from Sony supports haptic feedback, eye tracking, 4K HDR, 120hz frame rates for rendering, and a FOV of 110 degrees. Also, while connecting to the PS5 with a single USB-C cable, which is great considering there’s not a lot of cables running around which you could trip over.

Although Sony has to compete with bigger companies with headsets like the Oculus Quest 2, the Valve Index, and the HP Reverb G2. Virtual reality hardware has matured a lot since the first PlayStation VR, But now, with new technology available and big companies competing for the virtual reality space, Sony has to prove that they can provide a compelling experience with the PlayStation, It seems like it’s not very hard for them to do so, as they’ve already announced one big game being made for the system called Horizon Call of the Mountain, Which they say is built specifically for this virtual reality headset. Although this news revealed from so Nice and has answered the biggest question about the PSVR 2, there is still a lot we don’t know about this device, like the price or the release date.
