Epic Games won’t be updating Fortnite to run on the steam deck.

Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic games Said that Linux is a very hard audience to serve and They don’t plan to update Fortnite so that it runs on Steam OS. The upcoming valve steam deck will probably have to install Windows to play this popular Battle Royale game which is owned by a company that has conflicted with Apple and Google for a while now.

In a lot of tweets, Tim Sweeney also said that Epic doesn’t feel confident about their ability to combat cheating in Fortnite when running on custom kernel configurations.

Basically what they are saying is that it’s very hard for them to track and stop people who cheat while using the steam deck, It’s also going to be very hard for the company to develop a new system to detect cheating and any other Malicious intent, Which probably isn’t the best move considering the valve steam deck has just started.

This is all because the steam deck uses Steam OS, which is based on Linux, and also uses a compatibility layer called protons so that Steam games That are made for Windows can also run on The steam deck. Well, Epic Games has made their anti-cheat software Which is compatible with Linux and protons, so that developers Will be able to use it to make their games work on this team deck without issues, but Epic Games is not the one of those considering doing it.

Also, Tim Sweeney explains that Linux is a very small market already and if divided by its different kernel versions then it is even smaller, All this makes it not worth it to Put in the work and create a security layer for what could be a very tiny audience.
