Google hit with $2.4 billion lawsuit in Europe, bags of money!!!

PriceRunner (A sweden-based price comparison website) Said that they were going to be suing Google for €2.1 billion ($2.4 billion). They did that after a European Court said that Google did breach EU antitrust laws. The previous November the EU general court appealed the decision to fine Google €2.42 billion, favoring their comparison shopping services over rivals.

PriceRunner CEO Mikael Lindahl said that they were making that decision to seek financial compensation for the damage Google had caused them as a fight for consumers who suffered from Google’s infringement Of the competition law for the past 14 years and still today.

PriceRunner said Google has a monopoly-like position in Europe and that Google has still not complied with the EU Commission’s decision and is abusing its position as being the most dominant power. They claimed that traffic and profits were diverted from themselves and other shopping services and that their offers are higher than other services in turn harming consumers.

Google did lose their first appeal against the EU fine, but they did launch another one last month, saying that they feel like there are areas that do require legal clarification from the EU Court of Justice. This is a really interesting case As we don’t know what the result will be.
