Spotify released its quarterly earnings, which was not a good thing because it is a very bad time for them. Their star podcaster Joe Rogan has been part of the reason for a big controversy surrounding the platform altogether, because of some misinformation regarding COVID-19, many other Music artists did pull out their discographies from their platform. Many other Spotify-employed podcasters did speak out, and even the White House responded.

CEO Daniel Ek Did answer many questions about the backlash and having Joe Rogan on the platform. Also about their decision to host, distribute and monetize the show.

He turned it into a discussion as one of free speech and made Spotify a platform that helps all audio creators make a living out of what they do. He also said that Spotify will now roll out a COVID-19 disclaimer on any podcast episode that discusses the ongoing pandemic and also their public rollout of its content moderation policies, He did say these are things that he is positive about.

He said that even though Joe Rogan is one of the top podcasters on Spotify, there is always something for everyone. Monthly users have grown by 18% year over year to 406 million, while paying subscribers reached 180 million, Considering that there has been a very big growth.

Spotify does hope to reach 50 million creators. Daniel Ek said creators will make money through the platform and Spotify will also continue to invest in tools, resources, and services to cater to them. Elec also said that they want to become the best place for audio creators, and they’ve just scratched the surface of the creative potential in the audio space.
