The future of HoloLens from Microsoft is very uncertain as Microsoft is struggling to put together a new strategy for their mixed reality headset. These reports come from Business Insider, a reputable publication. Microsoft has scrapped all of its plans for what could have been the HoloLens 3 in some upcoming months.
Microsoft is also possibly inked a deal to team up with Samsung to develop a new mixed reality device causing an internal divide within the mixed reality division of Microsoft. Frank Shaw denied that the HoloLens is dead. They said that the Holo lens is a critical part of Microsoft’s plans for emerging categories like mixed reality and the Metaverse. They said that Microsoft is committed to HoloLens and the future HoloLens development.
Also, the employees in the mixed reality division on Microsoft’s end are arguing about which area they should focus on. Many reports say the team is divided, Some members say they should be creating software platforms for the Metaverse that other companies can use, other team members, say that they should focus on hardware.
Other people are also arguing if Microsoft should even continue focusing on creating products for enterprise consumers, or whether they should all create products for consumers now.
With all of this going on right now, we are sure that Microsoft has very big plans for the Metaverse as they have publicly announced that they are going to be part of the transition from web2 to 3. It, we’d personally don’t think that Microsoft is going to discontinue the Hololens 3 as it remains a crucial part of Microsoft’s vision of the Metaverse and the future of Microsoft.
