You might have to pay for Instagram soon.

Instagram has started testing paid subscriptions with a small group of creators. These paid subscriptions come with access to exclusive content and features like subscriber, only lives, and badges. A little bit like Onlyfans, except the fact that it’s not explicit. Users will soon be able to subscribe to a small number of creators to access exclusive content, Instagram said in a post, they were launching a set of subscriptions today, A lot more creators will be added to this in the coming weeks.

Fans will pay a monthly fee to access subscriber-only content from creators. They follow, like exclusive live streams and stories. Subscribers/ True followers will get a purple badge by their username, signaling their status to the creator. Prices might range from $0.99 to $99.99. Also, creators can select their prices for their subscriptions. Instagram currently will not take a cut out of creator subscription revenues until at least 2023.

Right now, 10 creators are part of the early test including basketball players, Sedona, Prince, Olympian Jordan Chiles, and an astrologer, Alisa Kelly. Mark Zuckerberg who owns meta wrote in a Facebook post that they were very excited to keep building tools for creators to make a living doing creative work and put these tools in more creators’ hands soon. Seems like they are positive about this.

Let’s just hope this doesn’t turn into the next Onlyfans. A video Instagram head, Adam Moser said subscriptions are some of the best ways for creators to have a predictable income, Brand advertisements aside of course. With this new feature coming from Instagram and Facebook’s side, You might think they are the only ones doing it, But it seems like that is not true, Twitter introduced super follows, And many other creators also currently. Offer subscriber content off the platform on Patreon or substack.

This is a great thing for the users right now. It’s also a great thing for creators to make a living out of what they do. Who knows if this feature is available outside of beta testing, We might also introduce a new one with exclusive content! Like content with better quality and exclusive stuff too.
