Sega facing backlash for adding NFT support to their game.

Ever since the gaming industry Started. Technology and gaming have naturally gone hand in hand. As technology evolves, so do the games that many people across the globe and joy. Games are a source of enjoyment and immersing yourself in a reality that is not real. But sometimes they also cause controversies. The latest trend in the gaming and tech industry is called NFT’s, Or specifically a non-fungible token.

What is an NFT? It stands for non-fungible tokens, Non-fungible tokens, or digital items that can be bought and sold using this blockchain technology. This means That they are not fungible, making them a different type of asset. (We think that the idea of NFTS is just pure money-making) Just the same way a collector would pay $1,000,000 for just a stroke of paint on a Blank canvas. It’s the same thing, but instead, you don’t even get the canvas, and just pay up BIG for a JPEG image, that you don’t even hold the copyright to, So basically, anyone in the entire world can download it and flaunt that as their own.

There are many games nowadays based on simply blockchain technology or just Integrating cryptocurrencies in their games. But the OG games taking this step towards NFTS and cryptocurrencies are facing backlash.

The same thing just happened with Sega. They announced that the game, “Sonic the Hedgehog” would now support NFTs. Sega announced they would support NFTs in April 2021 and then faced immediate backlash. Sonic’s franchise was founded and continues to feature themes of technology versus nature from a pollution perspective, and the parent corporation branding itself under Sonic supporting NFTS and blockchain which Consumes a lot of electricity in turn, causing a lot of harm to the planet. Which was a huge concern of hypocrisy for the fans.

The backlash was specifically mentioned in the report before. Ultimately, Sega stated that. After its research has yielded results, it will make its final decision based on if it matches what the company aims to achieve at this time. Similar to what we heard yesterday, with Mozilla. While this isn’t Sega saying they will just totally stop the NFT thing. It’s just the fact that they decided to halt it for a while. Again, very similar to Mozilla. The fact that Sega did care about the fans who Stood against Them integrating NFTs, Was great. Unlike Ubisoft who’s more focused on their investors rather than their consumers.
