Google will now help users get rid of personal results on Search

According to 9to5Google, Google is introducing a feature that will make it simpler to get rid of search results that include your home address, phone number, and other personally identifying information. The “results about you” feature was first introduced by Google in May at I/O 2022, where it was described as a method to “let you simply select whether your personally-identifiable information can be found in Search results.”

You can select the three-dot menu in the top right corner if you come across a result that includes your home address, phone number, or email. This launches the standard “About this result” panel, but at the bottom of the screen is a new “Remove result” option. If any of the three items appear in the result, it is stated in a dialogue box that “we can examine your request more rapidly.” The Google app now has a new menu item called “Results about you,” which you can access by touching your user profile in the upper right. From there, you can keep track of the request. The “All requests,” “In progress,” and “Approved” filters can then be used to track the status of requests.

The “Why would you wish to remove this result” step on the same page also allows you to submit a new request. Those options include It displays additional personal information, my personal contact information, my contact information with the goal to damage me, is outdated, and displays other personal information. However, Google has already stated that the new function has only been made available to a small number of users in the US and Europe (I’m in the Google app beta and haven’t seen it in France yet). In the interim, you can use a removal request to delete other personally identifying information or doxxing content from Google Search. More details are available here.
