In March, Walmart introduced its virtual changing room, offering 50 models of different heights and body shapes. It was up to you to identify the model that most closely resembles you so you could see how an article of clothing would seem on you. By allowing you to digitally try clothing on in your own images, the company is now elevating the experience. Now that it has a virtual changing room, garments may be fitted in a realistic manner. When you select an item to fit, you will see the areas where shadows would fall and how the cloth would drape on your body. It doesn’t just overlay graphics on your photos.

This implies that, theoretically, different sizes of the same item would appear differently on your photograph and would also fall differently on your body if you were to try them on in person. The employment of algorithms and machine learning models, which were initially employed to create precise topographic photographs, makes that possible.

On Walmart’s website, the new virtual try-on experience is already accessible for 270,000 products from a variety of brands, including Levi’s and Hanes, and it will keep expanding. However, the feature does not allow you to use older photos: The first time you choose “yourself” as a model when you tap the “Try It On” button, you’ll be prompted to take a photo of yourself wearing something form-fitting and to input your height. The updated Walmart iOS app is now ready, and iOS users will “shortly” be able to use the images they capture on their mobile device when they launch the experience on a desktop or the web.
