We are getting into the electric future, aren’t we? Ford has just introduced a new version of the 2023 F-150 Lightning that was built for the police. The new car is called the Lightning Pro SSV [Special Service Vehicle] and it’s made for tasks that don’t include pursuit, like assisting at crime scenes or towing boats, including modifications to match.
There are optional police lights for the roof and an instrument panel tray with easier equipment mounting and toughened seating with steel intrusion plates in the front seatbacks. Even though the truck might rarely be used for taking suspects to the station, it might be able to very easily. Many other features are very similar to the Pro F150 EVs and that’s not bad as you could outfit the police station with the same regular or extended battery range packs, with Motors providing a respective 422 HP and 580HP. You’ll also get driver assists like copilot360 and automatic emergency braking. And to no one surprise, the company is pitching the cars designed as officer friendly, as these little power outlets will help illuminate crash scenes while the large Frank will provide extra gear storage.
The company still isn’t going to be sharing more details about the car until later this summer, so you will have to wait for a while for her range estimates and other details, although this could be an important launch of the Lightning Pro SSV, the first US electric pickup designed for the cops.
