TikTok will now help users control their screen time

TikTok is now rolling out controls to help users manage their screen time and with this change, the company’s also adding a new in-app dashboard that will be more closely track how long people are spending in the app.

Verse dashboard will now show statistics like how much time you spend on the app and when you use the app most and how often it is opened. Additionally, TikTok users will also be able to set screen time limits for how long they can use the app in one sitting. Previously the app has offered screen time controls that would timeout after a designated daily limit, but with this new setting, users will now be able to opt to have the app remind them to take a break if they have had it open for a very long period.

It’s very great to see a company that thrives off of user attention span, trying to bring balance to users’ lives and helping people reach their Digital well-being goals. But if you think about Why they are doing this? It’s probably because companies like TikTok and Instagram [A social media platform that has already implemented timers and break reminders] have been questioned about their apps’ impact on teens.

Also, lawmakers in the Senate introduced a bill that will increase the study of social media addiction to put up more guardrails to protect younger users out there, which is also probably why the company is making this move.

Also, take talk now says they are introducing additional screen time restrictions for teens between the ages of 13 and 17. Teens will also be able to see the weekly digital well-being prompts and get additional screen time reminders when they have spent more than 100 minutes in the app on a single day.
