Amazon just opened the first Whole Foods equipped with cashier-less technology

Amazon just brought out their cashier-less, Just-walk-out-tech to a whole food store for the first time, allowing customers to just shop and leave this door with their items without any kind of cashier. The store opened on February 23rd in Washington DC, Glover Park.

Amazon, although, has been operating many cashier-less grocery stores in increasingly large Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh-branded stores, This is the first time that they have decided to bring this tech to a Whole Foods Store. This grocery store is 21,500 square feet in size And it’s certainly not the largest door to use this technology from Amazon, ever. Whole Foods features Amazon’s palm-recognition technology for entry alongside more typical QR codes. The store still has several employees staffing various counters who also explain how the cashier-less technology works. The Amazon store also has self-service amenities like bread slicers for customers to slice their loaves, and customers can also choose self-service checkouts that they don’t just want to walk out of.

And certainly, this is not the only store that is going to be running on Amazon’s new technology, as Amazon announced that they are bringing their cashier-less technology to the second store that is going to be opening in Los Angeles later this year.
