Snapchat has added a new location-sharing feature as they looked forward to building their new safety lineup. They are introducing live location sharing that allows users to share their exact whereabouts with friends for short periods of time.
The Snapchat map has had a location-sharing feature for years (But The thing is that the location of friends only updates when they last visit Snapchat) But the new version of the feature now updates the location In real-time, So your friends will be able to see exactly where you are in real-time for a set period of time. Very much like location sharing on Google Maps.
Snapchat says that this optional feature will make it easier to meet up with friends and help people stay safe in situations when they may need the extra reassurance of knowing that the friend or family member can see where they are, Snapchat also said that the user’s Will need to be friends and mutually obtained for the live location sharing in order to use this feature to increase safety.
This update is coming up as Snapchat has tried to build up its safety features in recent months. They also recently announced that they would limit friend recommendations for teens in an effort to deal with drug dealers targeting teenage users, and they are also expected to launch new parental controls features later this year.
