Samsung announced their first smartphone chip with AMD ray tracing GPU.

If you didn’t already know, Ray tracing is a pretty big deal when it comes to graphics. Also, Samsung announced the Exynos 2200. There is a new in-house mobile processor for smartphones. It’s the first mobile system on a chip to include a GPU with AMD’s rDNA 2 graphics architecture. This architecture enables features like hardware-accelerated ray tracing too.

The collaboration between AMD and Samsung has been very long and the two companies announced a licensing deal back in 2019. And also confirmed last year that Samsung’s next flagship mobile SoC both use RDNA 2. Well, it seems like this is the chip.

The Exynos 2200 is manufactured on Samsung 4 nanometer UV process. Samsung is Branding this GPU as Eclipse. on the CPU side, the Exynos 2200 Uses ARM V9 cores. One higher-powered Cortex X2 flagship core, 3 Cortex A710 cores for balanced performance.

Samsung’s end Exynos chips are normally used by Samsung on their higher-end flagship devices, These Exynos chips are not very powerful if compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon they ship within the US. But having their line of in-house chipsets gives Samsung an upper hand in the industry, which is a really good thing.
