The edit button on Twitter is now going to be free for all users

Twitter may start charging users $8 per month for verification, although Elon Musk apparently intends to offer the edit button to all users without payment. The modification is being implemented in tandem with the more extensive updates to Twitter Blue that Musk showed on Tuesday, said Casey Newton of Platformer.

The edit button on Twitter is now only accessible to users of the $4.99 per month Twitter Blue service, which is only available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Users have a window of 30 minutes to edit their tweets, and the functionality includes a revision history. Since taking over the company, Musk hasn’t yet discussed his plans for the edit button in public (or on Twitter). But after first acquiring a sizable investment in the business this spring, the feature was one of the first Twitter-related issues he brought up. Just hours after Musk asked his followers if the platform should have an edit feature, Twitter revealed that it was developing the capability. (Millions of his followers select “yse” in the poll; according to prior statements made by Twitter, an edit button has long been the most frequently asked-for feature.)

Musk is reportedly preparing more significant modifications to Twitter’s subscription service at the same time. He claims that for $8 a month, he will let anyone become verified and will also show subscribers fewer ads. He also apparently intends to do away with the ad-free articles that are now a benefit of Twitter Blue, preferring instead to negotiate with publishers to let users access content behind their paywalls.
