Youtube is now integrating premium subscriptions from big players like Paramount+ and AMC+

With a new feature called Primetime Channels, YouTube is integrating premium streaming providers into its main app. Along with videos from your favourite creators, you’ll find TV series, movies, and sporting events from providers like Showtime, Starz, Paramount+, and AMC+. Primetime Channels registration is now open to US residents in the Movies and TV section. You may sign up for more than 30 services right away, and more are on the way. Among the services that will soon be accessible is NBA League Pass. Along with episodes and movies, the homepages of Primetime Channels will feature trailers, cast interviews, and behind-the-scenes material. Through the primary YouTube search box, you may look for movies and television shows on channels. You’ll notice a green “view now” mark if a movie or show is accessible on a service to which you have subscribed, according to The Verge. Otherwise, “pay to view” will be displayed in the icon.

You’ll also find movies and TV shows from Primetime Channels in your YouTube recommendations. In order to help you get started viewing anything right away, if you search for a trailer for something you’re interested in and the series or movie is available on a channel to which you have subscribed, it may appear in your recommendations. While you can rate movies and TV shows and post comments, Primetime Channels’ material won’t have a view count. YouTube is clearly attempting to become the hub for all your streaming needs to help it better compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu and HBO Max. It aims to bring more things for you to watch to Primetime Channels, along with more features. The platform is also planning an international rollout of the feature. One thing that Primetime Channels doesn’t seem to offer, at least for the time being, is live TV. You may still need to go to YouTube TV for that. Given that YouTube TV has a fraction of the number of subscribers Netflix has (albeit more than Hulu’s live TV option), it seems smart to try another tactic as the battle for consumers’ attention and dollars rages on.

You can’t just link your accounts if you already have a membership to Paramount+, Shudder, or one of the other Primetime Channels. You must terminate your membership and register on YouTube. The services you’ve subscribed to through YouTube TV will remain active, though. That looks too complicated no matter how you cut it. To better compete with streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max, YouTube is unmistakably making an effort to become your one-stop shop for all your streaming requirements. It seeks to add more features and content to Primetime Channels, including more stuff for you to watch. The feature will also be made available internationally by the platform.

Live TV is one thing Primetime Channels does not appear to provide at this moment. For that, you might still need to visit YouTube TV. Given that YouTube TV has fewer subscribers than Netflix (but more than Hulu’s live TV offering), it makes sense to pursue a different strategy as the competition for customers’ attention and money continues.
