Spotify has formally launched audiobooks as yet another listening option in its app, following many actions that suggested this day was nearing. Users in the US will now be able to access a special section for the format that enables independent purchases using a web link. The company claims that at debut, its library will have more than 300,000 titles. Audiobooks will appear in your suggestions on the home page in addition to having their own area with music and podcasts. You’ll get a selection of Spotify’s initial recommendations when you explore the audiobooks tab. This part, like all other content that is suggested for you on the site, will gradually be customised to your behaviour. The titles from the service’s library will also appear on search results now.
When you choose an audiobook, the play button will display a lock icon to show that you haven’t yet paid for the book. If you want to do so, a link will yank you away from Spotify and into a browser where you may finish the transaction before returning to Spotify so you can start listening. Any titles you buy will instantly show up in your library and be accessible for offline listening. The service will provide speed options so you may listen at your own speed, just like podcasts.
This is “the initial iteration” of audiobooks on Spotify, which is evident. Before entering new markets, the organisation intends to make notes and determine what has to be altered. Additionally, it seeks to “innovate the format” so that readers, writers, and publishers benefit more from what the format can offer.
