Google is now discontinuing their Pixelbook laptop series

According to an internal memo, Google is discontinuing its Pixelbook laptop. The corporation has also “shut down” the team that was working on the device’s next iteration, which was apparently “well along in development.” In an apparent effort to reduce expenses, the business chose to divert resources away from the high-end Chromebook. Apparently, members of the Pixelbook team were transferred to different positions within Google.

The decision signals the end of Google’s nearly ten-year experimentation with laptop production. The business unveiled the Chromebook Pixel in 2013, the first piece of hardware produced by Google to bear the Pixel logo, and updated it with a more expensive edition in 2014. When the first Pixelbook made its debut in 2017 as a high-end alternative to the normally inexpensive Chromebooks, Google changed course once more. The Pixelbook Pen was an optional attachment for the $999 2-in-1.

In 2019, Google unveiled the $649 Pixelbook Go, a Chromebook with the Pixel logo that was more reasonably priced but yet of a higher calibre. The Pixel-branded Chromebooks were intended to demonstrate the potential of Chrome OS when coupled with more expensive hardware, however the machines never proved to be as there are now better and cheaper options out there
