GM doesn’t want you to buy their newer models, like the GMC Hummer EV to quickly sell them for a profit as the company is now implementing aggressive measures to stop people from selling the car at a higher cost than it was bought at even if it does end up losing the company some customers. Steve Carlisle, GM, president for North America, told the GM dealership team that the company is now limiting the transferability of certain warranties if the vehicle being resold was purchased within the last 12 months, GM will ban the seller from placing future sold orders or reservations for certain high demand models.

Steve Carlisle said the new models affected by this rule are the GMC Hummer EVs, the 23MY Cadillac Escalade V, and the Chevrolet Corvette ZO6. GM has been struggling to keep up with the demand for their electric Hummer vehicles because of the cars being developed from scratch on their new Ultium EV platform. GM has been producing up to 12 Hummer EVs in a day and a spokesperson said that the company’s output will increase in the second half of the year but considering that the automaker has over 70,000 reservations and some people might run out of patience to just purchase the EV from a reseller which is possibly why the company is taking these steep and aggressive measures to stop vehicle resales. GM will also give $5,000 in reward points to customers who keep their 8thGen Corvette Z06 sports car for a year.
