Google Photos will be getting a movie editor and video streaming features this fall as part of an update to Chrome OS. It will let users make videos very similar to the highlight clips. The app already automatically makes. You will be able to select a theme as well as people or pets you want to feature in it from there Google Photos will pull together a movie using the clips and images from your library. Although there is no surprise that Google is including an automated tool, they also say that they include the ability to start from scratch, as you will be able to add video clips and photos in any order that you like, and the app will also let you adjust things like brightness and contrast.
But the company did not mention if these video editing features are coming to the mobile apps for iOS and Android anytime soon. But the feature has usually had parity regardless of platform, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see these tools expand past Chromebooks before long. There are many other handy updates planned for Chrome OS coming in the next few months, as another new feature will allow Chromebooks to access your library and use those pictures for background Wallpaper. There will also be a new cursive app for capturing and organizing handwritten notes. Those can be copied and pasted into other apps or exported to PDFs depending on how long you need to share them.
Chrome OS is also getting a dark mode very soon. It has been rumored for a long time now as you can on most other devices, but you will have to pick a mode or have it automatically switch between the modes based on the time of day as well. Google is also making a few productivity improvements to Chrome OS, as clicking on the data on the Chromebook shelf will now pop up a monthly calendar view, which you can then use to choose a date to see your Google Calendar events without having to open the app or website. Many of these updates are coming in August, although Google specifically noted the Virtual desk update won’t be available until late September, and the Google Photos video editing tools are also set to arrive in the fall, hopefully, sooner than later.
