Formula 1 might just be able to decrease their carbon footprint to 0 very soon

Formula 1 is now trying to clean up after their mess, and sharing their operations will have a net zero carbon footprint by 2030 as they plan to use 100% sustainable fuel sources in race cars.

F1 is currently developing a drop in fully sustainable fuel for use in F1 cars and they claim that most road cars will be able to use this new fuel too. This season F1 cars are using E10 fuel, which includes 10% ethanol that’s set to be fully renewable while going from 10% renewable fuel to a fully sustainable version in just a few years is very challenging and hard to achieve for a company of that size. F1 leaders say that they are very confident that they can easily reach that goal.

F1’s chief technical officer Pat Symonds is leading the 100% fuel sustainable project and they say that the motorsport is still in good shape to meet the 2026 target. They went on to say, “We’ve been working with Aramco and have now tested 39 surrogate blends of fuels. This has helped us understand the effects of the different types of lens that you can use in a sustainable fuel. We’ve been testing these in a single cylinder Formula One power unit, so it’s representative testing and I think that’s helped accelerate our progress.“
