Meta is now shutting down tuned on September 19th. Sign-up attempts for the couple-oriented social networking app will now produce errors. Meta was not very shy about their reasons for this move As a spokesperson said that their new product experimentation team winds down apps that they think “arent sticking”.

Meta NPE team launched ‘Tuned’ in April 2020 to give partners a private space where they could share their feelings. Love notes, challenges, and music streams. This timing was very clever of them given the start of the COVID pandemic although they did not intentionally do it. According to the company, this would help distant couples cement their bonds, which they couldn’t in real life.
It’s not very clear how many people use the app, although Meta did bring the iOS software to Android later, saying there were many couples who used the app to get closer, there’s very little doubt that the network remained very small as it was a niche product compared to Facebook or Instagram.
