Android audio switching is finally a reality, and you’ve probably been dreaming of this moment. Well, you will have to have the right earbuds As Google just started rolling out the automatic toggle to Android devices paired with the Pixel Buds Pro, if your phone or tablet supports Bluetooth multipoint Connections, Android will now intelligently switch the sound from one product to the other using a priority system.

You can now switch directly from your tablet audio to your phone for an incoming call for instance, but you won’t have to worry about incoming notifications as well as you can just switch back through notification if the OS makes a mistake that you’d like to go back to. This feature is now expanding to JBL and Sony headphones in the coming weeks according to Google, and this functionality is also going to be reaching non-Android platforms in the future, although the company did not provide when. Although you can enable switching by using fast pair to connect your headphones and link them to your Google account as well.

This concept isn’t very new and unique as Apple devices have already been pairing with Airpods offering audio switching since 2020, and Sony has also had a very similar approach. It is a welcome addition, but it’s not something new. Although every other manufacturer was restricting their tech to themselves, Google’s technology won’t ever restrict you to any headphone manufacturer and that’s what we like about this new addition.
