Twitter just scored a new victory in their lawsuit against Elon Musk over their attempted exit from a $44 billion takeover deal in the initial hearing of the Delaware Court of Chancery, Chancellor Kathleen McCormick has officially granted Twitter the request for an expedited 5-day trial beginning in October. Twitter originally wanted a four-day trial in September as a part of their effort to make Elon Musk honor his obligations.

Elon Musk’s lawyers asked the court to delay the trial to February of 2023, claiming that Twitter was in a sudden rush to complete the trial, forcing the acquisition after two months of alleged foot-dragging and obfuscation. Elon Musk accused Twitter of underreporting the volume of bogus accounts and a bid to clinch the deal. And as part of the call for a delay, Elon Musk’s lawyers have also claimed that they needed more time to search Twitter straw “Firehose” data.
Twitter did not get what it wanted exactly. This ruling is a clear victory for the company and it won’t have to wait for that long to obtain a decision. This might also force Elon Musk to rely primarily on the claims he made when he announced plans to back out of the purchase, and there is a good chance he might have to continue with the buy-out before the year is over and no matter how much he might regret making it in the first place.
