Tesla cars can now sense potholes and make rides smoother

Tesla cars will now be able to scan their road for potholes and adjust the suspension of the car themselves. Tesla just introduced a new software update, which will now allow their vehicles to scan for potholes and broken pavement on the road, which will then be used to generate a road data map and trigger the adaptive suspension and support and vehicles to adjust the ride height for more comfort.

Elon Musk tweeted about this feature back in 2020, and it now seems like it’s coming to the Tesla cars like we expected them to. This right adjustment feature will only work on Tesla Model S and Model X cars with adaptive suspensions. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet if the Model 3 or model Y vehicles will be able to scan for rough roads, even if they do lack the adaptive suspension to benefit from the data they are scanning for.

Although if you do think it is a very innovative feature, you’d need to know that Tesla is not the first automaker to make up this technology, as many other manufacturers like Ford and Volvo have also made features that detect individual potholes and instantly damp the suspension.
