Zuck’s really excited to announce that Facebook pay is now Meta Pay

Facebook pay is now Meta pay. Mark Zuckerberg just announced this new rebranding on Wednesday, calling this change the first step toward Meta becoming a digital wallet for their vision of the Metaverse. The software is not changing all that much in the immediate future, as you will still be able to use it to send your friends and family money over Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as pay for purchases and donate to charitable causes.

Moving forward, Zuckerberg says he envisions a future where Meta Pay will function as a universal wallet for all the digital keys you buy or create in the Metaverse. He went on to say, “Proof of ownership will be important, especially if you want to take some of these items with you across different services. Ideally, you should be able to sign into any metaverse experience and everything you’ve bought should be right there.”

Zuckerberg hopes this new service becomes the defector wallet of the Metaverse and he admits the kind of Interoperability he’s describing is a long way away, but the claims he makes could deliver a lot much better experiences for people in larger opportunities for creators out there.
