Instagram will now start putting Amber alerts to user feeds to notify people About missing children in the area. Instagram says that this feature will start rolling out tomorrow and it will be live in 25 countries over the next few weeks.
Even though this feature is now a thing, users Roland really have to expect to see these very often as the company notes that these alerts are meant to be very rare in specific to the search area. Instagram will use factors like IP address and location data to determine which accounts to push a notice to.
When these kinds of Amber alerts appear the alerts will crop up on their entire feeds unlike mobile notifications that are normally pushed via wireless carriers. Instagram’s version of the Amber Alert will include a photo and description of the missing child, as well as other relevant details like where the child was last seen.
Well, this is not really the first time the parent company Meta has added Amber Alerts as Facebook started Putting them to user feeds since 2015. Also, this feature could be particularly impactful on Instagram as its a visual first platform that’s widely used by teens already.
