You can now stream YouTube Music on wearOS smartwatches

You will now be able to stream via YouTube Music on Wear OS as the company’s music service now streams directly from their wear OS app.

You will have to pair it with an Android phone for functionality and a premium subscription is also very necessary regardless of the platform. After that, you can leave your phone at home knowing you’ll still have access to all your music. This upgrade will also allow you to add a YouTube Music tile for quick access to the browse section of your most recently played playlists. Although this feature just came out, first-party music streaming on Wear OS has always been problematic.

Although Google Play Music was always available on the platform, the app didn’t carry over when the company shut down the service in 2020 and transitioned to the YouTube offering. Also, considering Google is also releasing the Pixel Watch this fall, it will be very interesting to see how these companies work together to make this a seamless experience for listening to music on the watch directly. Although we can say that the speakers won’t really emit the best sound possible, it still gets the job done and might come in handy when you’re just listening to some podcasts.
