Qualcomm’s new smart glass technology has come a long way in the two years development phase they’ve been testing it with, and now the company is ready and they have unveiled the first ever wireless smart AR viewer reference design, which is basically a next generation pair of AR glasses which will help hardware partners build their own immersive eyewear.

The smart glass basically tethers to the host PC wirelessly with the phone or a puck with a 40% thinner design despite having a newer Snapdragon XR2 platform. These new glasses have a better balanced weight design and the device will be a lot more comfortable than the predecessor, even if it still won’t win any Fashion Awards out there because it really doesn’t look that great.
Each eye gets a 1080P90 Hertz micro OLED display that eliminates motion blur totally, so that’s really cool, users will also have a full 6 degrees of freedom movement thanks to three cameras. We also get hand tracking with gesture recognition, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth, which really helped in shuffling data quickly while keeping lag under 3 milliseconds between the glasses and the host device.
A lot of manufacturers out there have already gotten their access. Tool companies, new AR design, and we’ll have to wait their turn within the coming weeks as you won’t really be able to buy these exact hardware as an everyday customer. But you will.see a very big wave in the industry leading to a lot of great new next generation AR glasses you wouldn’t mind wearing and switching out for your primary device that is your phone
