Google and Epic finally reached a settlement, great news for music creators

Bandcamp will no longer have to worry about their app being pulled away from the Play Store by Google as they just entered an agreement that will allow them to use their existing in-app payment system on Android while Epic games continues the antitrust lawsuit against Google. Artists can keep receiving the same share as before, but Band Camp will keep putting 10% of the Android sales on escrow.

This arrangement is taking effect on June 1st, the same day Google is enforcing a new rule that requires apps like band camp use only. The Play Store billing system for in app purchases. With this agreement still in place, Google will still have the power to enforce play store policies beyond the exception for this deal.

This move is a very big compromise for both of the sides in this lawsuit war, as Epic games had filed for a preliminary injunction, they would stop Google from putting band camps app without the escrow requirement.

Regardless of what argument anyone states, this news is very great for music makers as the two fighting companies have finally joined hands making it better for the creators in the platform to keep earning their own revenue and at least make a living out of it.
