Almost nearly a year after Google switched on encryption for chats on their messages app, they say that they are bringing those protections to group chats now, too. As this expanded feature will be available as an open beta later this year.

They announced it in their Google IO 2022 event today, The company hasn’t really revealed more details about an end to end encryption and group chats, but they will surely be similar to how this option works on one to one conversations as everyone on the group chat will have to have RCS functions switched on to use the feature and you’ll also be able to tell if a message you’re about to share with the group is encrypted or not.
The messaging app has now more than 500 million monthly active users with RCS, so there’s already a very big number of people who would be able to take advantage of end-to-end encryption on group chats.
