Apple just ended the most important product line in their history as they discontinued the iPod touch as it won’t available in stores.This move was expected for a long time as Apple last updated the device in 2019 and that was just to provide a better processor in the design. That hadn’t changed since 2012, so it goes to show that the iPod hasn’t played an important role in the product strategy for a long time, which became the reason they discontinued it.
We have to say that the iPod made the company of very big consumer electronics giant. It is today as it quickly dominated the MP3 player market as iPods represented 40% of the revenue, Apple earned by 2006.
Of course, the iPhone was the only reason the iPod fell, as many people just needed only one device in their pocket, which was their smartphone. This is why iPod sales were in free fall in the early 2010s.
