Even though Elon Musk is buying Twitter to loosen the content moderation the company enforces, they might not be able to be quite as freewheeling as he’d like. The EU’s international market Commissioner, Thierry Breton, told the Financial Times Dad Twitter will still be subject to EU regulations, including the Digital Services Act, governing efforts to fight misinformation.

The EU Digital Services Act requires Twitter/ Internet companies to share how they are getting rid of false claims on their website. Also banning targeting minors as well as specific ethnicities, political affiliations, religions, and sexual orientations.
Although we aren’t certain how Elon Musk is going to be addressing this warning as it’s safe to say that Musk’s approach to free speech will clash with political realities worldwide and not just in the European Union.
