Brave just rolled out a new feature called De-AMP, a feature that puts Google’s AMP [Accelerate Mobile Pages] The company designed this feature to bypass any pages that are rendered with AMP, taking users directly to the original website where possible. Brave said that they introduced this feature to prevent users from visiting AMP pages altogether. They said that their browser will also watch as pages are being fetched, redirecting users away from AMP pages before it’s even rendered, preventing Google code from ever being loaded and executed.

According to Brave, this feature was implemented by them to protect the privacy, security, and Internet experience of their users. They say that AMP is harmful to users and the entire Internet, also helping Google monopolize the control of the direction of the web. Originally, AMP was introduced by Google saying that it would improve the mobile web experience by loading pages faster But as time passes, it’s been targeted by a lot of critics out there that say that it is a way for Google to increase their monopoly in the Internet ad market by hosting all of the content on their servers.
Also, brave is a company that tries to achieve its motto, “The best privacy online”. Attacking Google is a really big part of their business core strategy. That actually kind of makes sense in this case.
