Spotify is losing Barack and Michelle Obama as their partnership ends in October. The former first couple’s exclusive podcast deal with Spotify is coming to an end and reports say they won’t be signing a new one. The production company behind Barack and Michelle Obama’s podcast ‘Higher Ground’ is seeking a partner that allows them to produce several shows, releasing them on multiple platforms at the same time, which they weren’t getting with Spotify.

Spotify always wants exclusivity from famous personalities to promote their platform, which is probably why Higher Ground declined to make an offer for a new contract. The company is currently negotiating with other potential partners, including Amazon’s Audible and I Heart Media, for a deal that’s expected to be worth millions of dollars.

Obama’s deal with Spotify was rumored to be nearly $25 million and produced Renegades born in the USA with Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen, as well as the Michelle Obama podcast, wherein the former First Lady talked about relationships with friends and family.

The Michelle Obama podcast was one of Spotify’s most popular shows in 2020 when it was eventually made available on other platforms.
