Netflix is probably going to be adding a cheaper ad-supported plan for viewers in the coming years. No doubt there is going to be a very major influx of users coming to the platform.
In the company’s latest earnings call, co-CEO Reed Hastings said that Netflix is working on a free offering and they are also going to be finalizing details for those plans over the next couple of years. They said that they find ads very complex and they are a very huge fan of the simplicity of subscriptions. But giving consumers who don’t mind watching as the option to Payless makes a lot of sense.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense for the company as they already lost around 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, which they blamed on stiffer competition in the market and the inability to expand in some other territories due to tech limitations and account sharing. Nearly 222 million households are paying for Netflix, but over 100 million people shared these accounts, which results in a loss for the company.
The ad memberships will be tiers, members who don’t mind paying full subscription fees don’t have to be subjected to advertisements. We don’t have any doubt that it works,” he said
