Epic Games just created a mobile app that turns images into 3D scans. Epic bought a company (Capturing Reality) last year, the company makes RealityCapture, a photogrammetric software. Converting laser scans/images into 3D scans or assets. Epic is hoping to give users access to the same tech right on their phones with the RealityScan app.
Creatives will be able to things to use on projects. The app prompts you to take nearly 20 photos of an item. You can also hold down your finger on the capture button as you move around the object. After the app processes the images and turns them into a 3D object, you can export the scan to Sketchfab.
You’ll then be able to sell the asset to other creatives or use them for your 3D, virtual reality, and augmented reality projects. Game devs will be able to add any item in a virtual environment.
