Amazon just took over MGM for $8.45 billion

The James Bond movie series is now co-owned and The RoboCop movies are now totally owned by Amazon. The company just finalized its $8.45 billion takeovers of the television studio giant MGM. European Union Antitrust Regulators approved the deal this week, there wasn’t a great deal of overlap between the two companies and MGM’s content cannot be considered as a must-have compared with other studios. This is why the EU antitrust Regulators approved this.

Amazon had also given the Federal Trade Commission to review the buyout within a deadline of mid-March to challenge or approve this acquisition, and if they did not file a legal challenge by then, Amazon would be free to move forward with the purchase.

Amazon said that MGM will now compliment Prime Video and Amazon Studios’ work and deliver a diverse offering of entertainment choices to customers. The MGM studio has more than 4000 films and 17,000 episodes of TV to its name, along with 180 Oscars and 100 Emmy Awards (So it’s pretty clear Amazon would love having MGM under their umbrella) Although Amazon owns MGM now, They will still release James Bond movies in theaters instead of Prime Video exclusives. The majority of the movies and TV shows that MGM makes will end up on Prime Video now as There is a lot of competition in the video streaming space and MGM’s entire content gallery exclusive to Prime Video would be a real plus for Amazon.
