Ford is going to ship and sell Explorer SUVs WITHOUT ANY chips.

Ford will now sell and ship their Explorers without chips that power the rear air conditioning and heating controls. Ford is instead planning on shipping the missing semiconductors to the dealers within a year Which will then be installed in the customer’s vehicles after they purchased them. The heating and AC will still be able to be controlled from the front seats and the customers who choose to purchase a vehicle without the real controls will receive a price reduction. This change is temporary and They’re doing this as a way to bring new cars to their consumers faster.

originally had plans to ship partially-built, undrivable vehicles to dealers last year, but now, the unchipped vehicles will be both driveable and sellable. As pointed out by Automotive News, Ford planned to ship partially built undrivable vehicles last year, but now the unchecked vehicles will be both drivable and sellable. This decision comes in an attempt to move the partially-built vehicles crowding its factory lots.

Ford has been trying to deal with the constraints that were introduced to you through the chip shortage and Supply chain issue. They were forced to scale back production of their popular F-150 truck last year. A lot of other automakers have also made sacrifices due to this ship shortage, with GM dropping wireless charging and a lot of other features as Tesla also sold some cars without the USB ports and meet them and still able at a later date.
