In 2018, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Twitter Came together to announce the Data Transfer Project. This helps users transfer their data directly from one service to the other without needing to download and reupload it. After that, Apple also joined in. Google just provided a new update on their participation pledging $3 million in funding and help from engineers over the next five years to work on the open-source library that keeps the project alive.

This Project plays a very big part in everyday tools that you can use like exporting or transferring data from services like Google Takeout, Facebook’s link ships images directly to Google Photos, and a similar one for Apple that allows you to move images from iCloud to Google Photos. Google says on their blog post that on average there are 8.2 million exports every month, with Google Takeout, and they say they will continue to improve the tool with new features and support for data transfers to more services in the future.
No matter if you are a developer or just a person that uses any major Internet services and has data you’d like to transfer, warm one service to the other, you can get a lot more knowledge about this project right here.
