Realme 9 Pro and Pro Plus have a mind blowing color changing design.

Realme just announced the Realme 9 Pro and Pro Plus. These two new phones will sit at the top of their extremely popular mid-range lineup. These two new devices are a very substantial upgrade on the previous lineup, the 8 Pro. It comes with an all-new physical design combining thin and flat sides with a curved back panel using a photochromic layer that changes color when exposed to sunlight.

The headline feature on these devices is their 50MP camera apart from the color-changing design, which is equipped with OIS using the Sony IMX766 sensor found in other flagship phones like the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Oppo Find X3 Pro as these companies fall under the BBK umbrella.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great and large 1/1.56” sensor with 2.0µm pixels, though the performance will be affected by the Realme software. There’s also an ultrawide and a macro lens; the non-Plus 9 Pro’s main camera has an unspecified 64-megapixel sensor that doesn’t have OIS and is presumably physically smaller.

Surprisingly, the 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus do not have very different specs as you would expect, the Plus isn’t necessarily better across the board. The 9 Pro Plus has a 90Hz OLED screen, a MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor, and a 4,500mAh battery that fast-charges at 60W. The 9 Pro, meanwhile, has a 120Hz LCD, a Snapdragon 695 processor, and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. Surprisingly, the 9 Pro Plus’ OLED screen with an in-display fingerprint sensor is really what marks it out as the more flagship-aping device. This is actually very confusing as there’s literally no basic difference between these two devices. Realme has not provided any pricing or release information for these two devices yet, but launch markets are going to be including India and Europe.
