Truth Social is censoring content and kicking off users

The social media platform Truth Social, which was built by former President Trump, was launched only two days ago, and it’s struggling with technical glitches and onboarding new users in the early stages of its rollout. The social media platform which they say is a better free-speech alternative to Twitter with better content moderation policies has already booted a few users off of their platform With the ongoing influx of users that are struggling to even access the platform. They officially now have nearly half a million people on their waitlist and it seems like their servers weren’t ready for this influx of people.

A user was rejected from Truth Social as their username, Was a similar parody Twitter account of the same name that poked fun at former Representative Devin Nunes (CEO of Truth Social parent company)

A few users out there have also pointed out that their social media apps’ moderation policy is significantly more strict than that of Twitter despite their claim to be a refuge from big tech censorship. Unlike Twitter, users on this social media platform can get suspended or booted from the platform altogether if moderators consider it to be false, defamatory, or misleading.

It’s very unlikely that Truth social will still be able to enforce such a strict moderation policy when they continue to grow on this scale. The platform currently is relying on a combination of volunteer moderators, user reports, and bots to handle content removal.

And as more users continue to grow in this platform, there are a lot of technical glitches while attempting to sign up on the app, as it is still available only on iOS, the platform faced a 13-hour service close. It’s just hours after their Sunday evening debut due to a flood of new users, a little bit like the coinbase’ app glitched when they showed that extremely popular Super Bowl ad. Although the app has taken a pretty rocky start, it still has a 4.1-star rating on the App Store.
