Meta is bringing their 3D avatars to Instagram is also rolling out updated avatars to Facebook and Messenger. Met today announced on Monday that users in the US Canada and Mexico can now show up as their virtual selves and stickers feed posts, in profile pictures, and more.
Meta is also working on improving the look of avatars by making the colors and facial shapes feel a little more authentic than they could be when they would be animated. They also say that they are working on more items for the Avatar editor.

They are also updating meta avatars with a lot more expressions, faces, and skin tones as well as wheelchairs and hearing aids to not leave the disabled out. This is what CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement posted on his Facebook profile. They said that they are working on many different kinds of digital clothing too, so you can access your avatar across Quest, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. They also said that one day we could also have multiple avatars ranging from expressive to photo-realistic.
It seems like meta is working on this because they want to push forward on the new social media platform they made intended to replace Instagram and Facebook shortly called Horizon Worlds. We speculate they are working and making these avatars available through all their social media platforms because they want people to get accustomed to avatars. This will potentially help them make the move from Web2 toward 3 easier.

Meta is also partnering with the NFL to give fans a way to celebrate their favorite team ahead of the Super Bowl. Currently, from now till February of 28, users can choose to support the Cincinnati Bengals or the Los Angeles Rams, People can also opt for a neutral Super Bowl LVI short for users who don’t want to pick a team. VR and Quest are one of the key parts of the Metaverse, but the way meta SAYS the Metaverse is an interconnected digital World War One that bridges VR and AR in addition to more familiar platforms like the phone and computer. So you don’t have to be worrying about ditching your PC anytime soon.
The company did launch avatars in 2020 as a way to compete with snaps bitmoji and they have been continuously updating them since. If they did not unveil their plans for the metaverse, we would speculate this was a new way for them to compete with Snapchat but we feel like this is a move To make it easier to bridge the gap between the Current platforms like Instagram and Facebook to words or other augmented reality or virtual reality? Social media platforms in the future.
