Instagram is taking new steps to stop potentially harmful content from reaching more viewers on their platform. They said that their new algorithm will deprioritize Content that could contain bullying, Hate speech, or any kind of violence.

Tell now Instagram has been hiding this potentially objectionable content from public-facing parts of the app like the Explore page or the reels section. But they have not done anything for the people that specifically follow people making this kind of content.

Another spokesperson from Meta confirmed that potentially harmful posts could still be eventually removed if they break any kind of community guidelines.

This update follows a similar change in 2020 when Instagram began to remove accounts that shared misinformation. Unlike that, Instagram says that this time the policy will only affect individual posts and not the total account.

Also, Instagram said that they will not factor in each user’s reporting history and how it orders their feeds. They also said that if the system sees that you specifically report certain kinds of content, they will be taking those into action and also showing you fewer posts that are of that kind.
