We all know Google was trying to make their Google Glasses project a real thing back in the day, Well, we all know they did fail miserably. Well, they are back at it again and Google engineers are developing a new augmented reality headset. According to a report by The Verge. Google is working on this new project called Project Iris, They hope to ship the product sometime in 2024, but that date Is very fluid right now and we cannot guarantee anything, nor can they.

Just like Apple’s mixed reality glasses which are rumored to come out at a near time. Google’s project Iris would be wireless and use external cameras to send an augmented image of the real world to you. Well, We don’t know how this idea will work out for Google as no one knows how the market will respond to this kind of product. But right now, many sources say that this prototype resembles a pair of ski goggles. That doesn’t seem like something you would wear anywhere on a daily commute, So it would be better for Google to make them a little bit more like normal glasses rather than these huge experimental bulky glasses.

Well, according to This report, There are reportedly 300 people working on this top-secret project at Google. Including some members of the Pixel Team. This project is being led by Google’s VP of Labs, Clay Bavor (They have been heavily involved in several past AR, VR, and XR projects over the years.) As it is really common for many Google concept projects to not come into the mainstream market. We are not sure that this project concept will be available to any consumer anytime soon.

Google’s history with this kind of technology goes back to their initial times when they unveiled the Google Glass project concept in 2012. That device did fail as a consumer product, but it is still being used in enterprise concepts and they probably have learned a lot through it.
