CES 2022 will be closing a day early due to “COVID Concerns”

CES has decided that the show will now end on January 7th, one day before they were presumed to. The CTA declared that it is “an additional safety measure” because of COVID and the Omnicron variant spreading like wildfire.

Over the last two weeks, several large companies canceled their physical presence at the conference. This is the largest tech conference ever, drawing more than 10,000 people each year.

Yesterday the US set a new record in COVID: the highest number of infections reported daily. Las Vegas, located in Nevada, with 11 percent of COVID tests returning positive, naturally they had to take a step and they simply just couldn’t shut it down, so they decided to decrease one day out of the many days the Tech conference, many companies start at CES because they get a pretty good jumpstart as many people support but this year they might face fate and have problems.  

More than 2,200 exhibitors are confirmed for CES. As exhibitors have curtailed their trips to Las Vegas, the CTA’s president and CEO, Gary Shapiro, has said the show “will and must go on.” In today’s announcement, the CTA said that 143 companies have signed up for in-person exhibits in the last two weeks.

Attendees have to show proof of vaccination to get badges. CTA has demanded that they test for COVID-19 less than 24 hours before entering the conference, and will also be giving away free tests to help with that. Masks will be required, and international travelers will get a free PCR test after the show ends.
